Children's Ballet of SA: A Rising Star at the Youth American Grand Prix

Joyful performance by Children's Ballet of San Antonio in a magical fairytale setting.

San Antonio's Dance Scene Shines Bright with Young Talent

In a stunning display of artistic brilliance, the Children's Ballet of San Antonio (CBSA) has recently made headlines by winning an impressive 19 awards at the highly regarded Youth American Grand Prix. At the heart of this local triumph is the company’s visionary Artistic Director, Vanessa Bessler, whose dedication to nurturing young talent has placed San Antonio firmly on the dance map—traditionally overlooked when it comes to elite ballet.

The Journey of Aspiring Dancers

Founded in 2014, CBSA is committed to providing professional-level performance opportunities tailored to budding dancers in the community. Bessler, recognized as the Youth America Grand Prix’s Outstanding Teacher for nine years running, has cultivated a program that's among the top 2.5 percent of national ballet institutions. Her leadership cultivates confidence in young dancers, with many advancing to prestigious training programs like the Royal Ballet School in London and School of American Ballet in New York.

Setting the Stage for Future Success

The accolades from the Youth American Grand Prix not only affirm the skills of these young performers but also enhance their resumes and open doors to future opportunities. Dancer Inez Dunne, for instance, has already garnered a scholarship and accolades that place her on the path to a captivating dance career.

A Community Celebration of the Arts

For San Antonio's foodies and families alike, as we embrace our city's vibrant arts scene, attending productions like The Children’s Nutcracker becomes a must-see event this December. Unlike other local productions that often limit young dancers to minor roles, CBSA casts its stars in prominent roles such as the Nutcracker prince and the Sugar Plum Fairy, showcasing high production values that join the world of culinary and artistic excellence. Enthusiasts of San Antonio restaurants and food festivals can delight in a cultural experience that brings together dance and community celebration.

Join the Celebration of Dance

This winter, don’t miss the chance to support San Antonio's talented young dancers as they take the stage at Lila Cockrell Theatre from December 12-14. Seeing these passionate performers in action is sure to inspire a love for the arts and deepen your connection to our community’s rich cultural landscape.
