Empowering the Next Generation: A Noteworthy Initiative

The San Antonio Area Foundation is on a mission to elevate educational opportunities in the region, launching the inaugural cohort of its Future Ready Impact grantees. This innovative program connects local nonprofits striving to enhance postsecondary enrollment among students in Bexar County. With a substantial investment of $7.1 million delivered through multi-year grants, the foundation is dedicated to making college and career pathways more accessible.

Get to Know the Grantees

Sixteen local organizations, all champions for youth development, have joined forces under this initiative. Nonprofits selected for this funding include Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas, Girls Inc. of San Antonio, and Empower House SA, among others. Each organization brings a unique strength to the table, with goals aligned towards improving student outcomes. The leadership of these organizations believes that collaboration can amplify their impact. Brandi Coleman, founder of Lemonade Circle, stated, "It’s good to be surrounded by other amazing leaders to grow professionally...we are stronger together."

Rising Enrollment Goals

The initiative aims to boost the rate of high school graduates from 50% in 2022 to a staggering 70% by 2030. Early results show progress, with the enrollment rate already increasing to 56%. Ryan Lugalia-Hollon, the Area Foundation's chief impact officer, emphasizes the organization’s unwavering commitment to helping these grantees improve their programming, ensuring that every student receives vital guidance to navigate post-graduation life successfully.

Future-Focused Advice for Students

By enhancing career advice and counseling services, the grantees are working hand-in-hand to provide support from as early as sixth grade. This proactive approach ensures that students are equipped with the knowledge and resources needed to make informed choices about their futures. The collaboration among these nonprofits signifies a dedicated collective effort, fostering a sense of connectivity within the San Antonio community, which thrives on local engagement and support.

Join the Conversation

As the San Antonio community witnesses this crucial initiative unfold, residents, parents, and local volunteers have the opportunity to engage with these nonprofit agencies through events, workshops, and volunteer programs. By participating in local charity events or educational workshops, community members can contribute to the growing success of the Future Ready program.

Let's come together to empower our youth!”
