Helping the Community: A Heartwarming Success

This year's Shoebox Project, organized by the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County, brought an amazing $86,240 in basic necessity donations to local residents. Now in its 11th year, this annual drive gathers community members and volunteers to fill shoeboxes with essential items like baby wipes, shampoo, and soap—resources that are vital for those in need.

Impact of Basic Necessities on Well-Being

Through the dedication of 350 volunteers, over 4,312 shoeboxes brimming with daily essentials were created and distributed among 16 nonprofit agencies. These simple items play a crucial role in alleviating the mental and physical strain on families, veterans, and individuals facing financial hardships in Bexar County, where nearly 46% of residents grapple with financial challenges.

The Mental Health Benefits of Giving

Access to basic necessities not only sustains physical health but boosts emotional well-being. Many families benefit from the alleviation of stress that comes from knowing they have what they need to care for themselves and their children. Residents feeling isolated or vulnerable can find comfort in the community's support, fostering a sense of camaraderie.
